The Department of Political Science and the Institute for International Business at Georgia State University offer an interdisciplinary program leading to a Master of International Business (MIB) degree and to a Master of Arts (International Affairs) degree. Students graduate with two degrees in international studies after 48 semester hours of study. The combination of the two programs provides an expedited curriculum that gives students an exceptional breadth of knowledge for careers and life in the global community of the 21st Century.
Graduates of these programs will have mastery in international governments and organizations, law, commerce and trade, accounting and finance, management, economics, a business language in addition to English, and the political issues facing the global marketplace.
Study Abroad
Within the program of Study, a student may complete up to the equivalent of nine semesters hours of preapproved course work at an institution outside the United States.
Courses may cover the language, culture, society, government or business of the host country and may be used to meet the elective requirements. The course will be equivalent graduate-level courses offered by Georgia State University. Normally, qualifying courses are those offered by institutions that are part of an exchange program with GSU. Courses taken at foreign institutions must be approved in advance by the Directors of Graduate Study.
International Internship
This requirement is met by a supervised work program conducted at an organization outside the United States. Foreign nationals may intern with organizations in the United States. The Georgia State University Office of Cooperative Education will assist students in locating internships in Europe and will assist foreign nationals in locating internships in Georgia. The Institute of International Business works with students to help identify internships worldwide. Students are encouraged to locate their own internships.
Student Admission and Graduation
Students eligible for the joint program will be admitted into the graduate program of both departments. Applicants may submit either GMAT or GRE scores to both departments. Students must notify both departments at the time of admission their desire to participate in the joint degree program. All credits submitted for each degree must be earned within seven years of admission and must have a “B” average. Students are urged to take any prerequisite courses as undergraduates to expedite progress through the program.
Under the auspices of the Institute of International Business, The Robinson College of Business joined an elite group of business schools that offer a Master of International Business Degree. The MIB is the first program of its kind in Georgia.
