PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Georgia State University’s Accounting and Managerial Sciences Study Abroad Program in Greece and Turkey provides an opportunity to see, hear and study firsthand the experience and perspectives of managers in the Mediterranean. During the Maymester, class meetings at GSU will prepare students for the trip. The program focuses on the impact of economic, political/legal, social, and cultural factors integrating theory and practice for accounting and management . We will visit a variety of organizations in Athens, Kusadasi, Thessaloniki and Istanbul with the opportunity to examine:

- PUBLIC-PRIVATE SECTOR RELATIONSHIPS
- BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
- FOREIGN BUSINESS
- TRANSFER PRICING
- FOREIGN TAXATION
- HUMAN BEHAVIOR IN THE WORKPLACE
- STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
The experience of interviewing managers and others in Greece and Turkey adds an additional, significant dimension to the program. Emphasis will be placed on understanding and applying accounting and management principles in the cross-national context.. Many students regard this program as their most intense and fulfilling university learning experience.
CREDIT
Successful completion of the program provides participants with six semester hours of credit. Graduate students register for TX 8660 , Study Abroad: Int’l Tax and MGS 8860, Management Studies Abroad. Undergraduate students register for MGS 4860., Management Studies Abroad. And ACCT 4660, International Accounting.
ELIGIBILITY
The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students that meet all academic requirements of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business. Program size is limited, and participation is contingent upon acceptance by the program directors. Prerequisites are enforced. Please see catalog for details.
RESPONSIBILITY & LIABILITY
Georgia State University does provide health insurance coverage to program participants. Georgia State University DOES NOT assume responsibility for damage or loss of any personal effects. A signed waiver of liability/indemnification is required of each participant before program acceptance.
Participants must obtain their own passports. The University reserves the right to alter program arrangements if required by circumstances.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
Accommodations are provided in Western-managed, first-class hotels. Travel between cities will be by private motor coach and cruise ship.
Program Cost: $4990. Cost may vary with currency fluctuations , airline surcharges and changing travel arrangements.
Price Includes:
- Round-trip airfare
- Hotel accommodation (double occupancy)
- Daily full-course breakfast
- Health/evacuation/repatriation insurance
- Travel between cities and selected city orientations
Price Does Not Include:
- GSU tuition and fees,
- Passport/visa fees
- Meals other than breakfast
- Excess baggage charges, tips, and personal items.
Participants who wish to tour the Mediterranean on their own after the program ends (at their own expense) should talk with the program directors before final payment of fees.
Tentative Itinerary
May 20—June 02, 2010
- The group will depart from Atlanta on May 20 and arrive at our first destination- ATHENS, Greece. We will spend two days exploring Greek culture.
- The second phase of our tour will include travel by private motor coach for business visits and cultural tours in KALAMBAKA, DELPHI, PHILIPI and THESSALONIKI, Greece.
- We will then travel to ISTANBUL and IZMIR, Turkey (visit Ephesus) and end our adventure with a 3-day Greek Islands Mediterranean Cruise (Rhodes, Crete & Santorini). We will depart Athens for Atlanta on June 2.
Scheduled tour destinations in Turkey and Greece are the cities as listed above and will include company/university site visits. Company visits will include both Greek & Turkish-based as well as global businesses operating in the region. Although not anticipated, some modifications to the itinerary may occur.
Mediterranean Study Abroad Program will include classroom Maymester learning and travel before the Summer Semester, 2010.
APPLICATION & INFORMATION
Participants may apply to the program directors in person or by mail using the enclosed application. The Payment and Application deadline is January 15, 2010. Because program size is limited, early application is strongly advised. Individual interviews will be scheduled with students upon receipt of application.
You will be notified as soon as a decision is made regarding your application. A nonrefundable $300 deposit will be required to confirm your acceptance into the program. This should be made by check, payable to Georgia State University.
The remaining balance must be made via GoSOLAR no later than January 15, 2010. Payments made after January 15, 2010 may result in a higher airfare reflected in your overall program cost.

Non-Georgia State University Students
Upon acceptance to the study abroad program, non-Georgia State University students who would be considered transient/visiting students at Georgia State, if they wish to receive credit for the study abroad course, will be required to provide all of the following:
- An application for admission to Georgia State University and a non-refundable $50 application fee. The application form for undergraduate students is available at the following website: http://www.gsu.edu/~wwwadm/app.html
- A letter of good standing and permission to attend GSU from the Registrar’s Office of the current/home institution.
- A statement of residency status for tuition purposes from the Registrar’s Office of the current/home institution [out of state students will pay only an additional $250 beyond in-state tuition].
Non-Georgia State University students should contact their college’s Study Abroad Office to request appropriate forms.
