What is an International Internship?
The Master of International Business degree is designed for the professional who desires to build a portfolio of international competencies in a rapidly changing world environment. The cornerstone of the program revolves around a student's performance in a required international internship in a business setting for a semester overseas. MIB candidates must be able to synergize a multitude of learning essentials from their classroom experiences to perform successfully in unchartered territory while operating proficiently in a second language.
The internship locations are determined by the student's interests and language capabilities. Past interns have been placed in such countries as France, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Argentina, among others. Students take on responsibility for substantive endeavors that directly impact the host firm's worldwide efforts. Industries supported cover the entire business spectrum from cold rolling steel mills in Germany and uninterrupted power sourcing in Thailand to tradeshow management in Brazil and digital cable broadcasting in France.
MIB students work to analyze target market trends, compile customer competitive intelligence, conduct product cost analysis, design inter modal logistical options, prepare documentation for an IPO, participate in global tradeshow activities, support the conversion to transnational accounting systems, and develop purchasing efficiencies to enhance intra country manufacturing operations.
The explosion of the information society coupled with the mobility of capital, technology and labor have created an exciting panorama for global business in the new millennium. The internship element of the MIB degree serves to crystallize the learning experience of each student like no other component. The knowledge base is reinforced through effective performance in a complex, stressful, and high tempo arena. The threshold for success continues to rise almost exponentially. Corporations of tomorrow expect business graduates to possess the necessary capabilities that can appropriately be pledged in the front lines against the realities of international commerce. The MIB internship is a culmination of academic and practical preparation, and it launches the graduate toward a fruitful journey for all those who accept the challenge to explore.
