Mrs. Sandra Saakashvili, First Lady of the Republic of Georgia paid a visit on September 17, 2009 to the Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University. Professor Bijan Fazlollahi, Professor of International Business and GSU Director of Programs for the Republic of Georgia, welcomed the First Lady at a luncheon given in her honor at the Commerce Club and attended by the Georgian students. Currently 21 sponsored Georgian students from Caucasus University, Tbilisi, Georgia, are studying at Robinson under three separate agreements. This is the largest number of sponsored students at GSU from any country. Two students are taking doctoral seminars and courses as part of a USAID-funded project for the development of an U.S. style PhD with specializations in finance, marketing, and management. Fourteen students are enrolled in the dual BBA Program. Georgian students complete the first two years of undergraduate coursework in Tbilisi, and the remaining years at RCB prior to earning both GSU and Caucasus University degrees. Five students are in a semester-long student exchange program. The exchange students are selected from the top honor students. Robinson faculty who have the Georgian students in their classes have offered much praise for their work ethic and wit.
